Deepa Kala: The Art of Light
Deepa Kala: The Art of Light was built around a single holding in the Salar Jung collection, its lamps and chandeliers, and the observation that light, across civilisations, has carried devotion, celebration, knowledge and the record of human progress. The evening treated illumination as memory and meaning, and asked whether a museum could be felt as well as observed.
It was conceived and produced by Henceforth end to end, from concept and cultural programming through creator curation, content direction and digital amplification.
The programme was built around performance, storytelling and sensory experience, drawing directly from the museum’s lamp and chandelier collection. Objects usually held behind glass became the organising logic of the evening, and the play of light through the galleries was reframed as a living expression of craft, ritual and time. The objective was to help audiences feel heritage, in a city that had walked past the building for generations.

An influencer led approach was integrated from the outset. Cultural creators from Hyderabad’s heritage, food and city vlog communities, with follower counts from 5,000 to 70,500, documented the light, the gallery moods and the lived experience of the space, translating the atmosphere of the evening into contemporary digital language. They were selected for alignment with heritage and visual storytelling ahead of reach, which is what let the museum experience travel as something authentic to the city.
Ten plus creators on the ground. 104,000 plus views. 2,200 plus likes. 50 plus stories. The content extended the life of the event well past the night itself, driving visibility and renewed cultural relevance for the institution across digital platforms.
One holding, read closely, organised everything. The lamps and chandeliers set the route through the galleries, the lighting plan, the performance programme and the storytelling. Creators were drawn from the city so the evening read as Hyderabad’s own, hosted before the programme began and briefed around the collection. The photographic key moment was chosen in advance, the light through the galleries at dusk, and the documentation was planned to it.
A format the museum can restage around another holding, and proof that a single collection, read closely, can carry an entire evening.
